Introducing The New Faces Of BOCA: Taylor Byers

Why did you choose PR as a career?

I actually started off my first year of college as a psychology major because I’ve always been so intrigued by the way people think and behave, but after a few intense science courses I realized that I could cultivate that same interest through other career paths. Once I discovered PR – which really is another form of channeling people’s interests and behaviors – I was hooked!

What drew you to BOCA?

I first heard about BOCA through a former colleague, and once I had the opportunity to speak with Kathleen and several other team members I knew I was meant to be here. Aside from my experience in B2B tech PR aligning well with the client roster, BOCA values collaboration and the idea that “no task is too big or too small for anyone, at any level, to tackle” – two things that I’ve found to be invaluable when it comes to agency life.

What is your favorite part of your job?

No two days are the same when it comes to working in PR, which forces me to stay on my toes and keep learning – even when I think I’ve mastered something!

What do you like to do for fun?

I picked up golf at the onset of COVID-19 and have come to really love it. I’m definitely no Tiger Woods, but it’s a great way to spend time outdoors and definitely teaches you patience. I also love to travel, both close to home and internationally. Australia has been my favorite destination so far!

What’s your favorite show?

Can anyone choose just one? Friends, Breaking Bad, Dexter and Dateline – in that order! Anything with crime, drama and humor you can count me in.

If you weren’t in PR, what would you do?

While I don’t think PR is going anywhere anytime soon, if ever, I would 100% become a detective if I had the chance. It was actually something I considered several years ago, but once I learned I would have to go through the police academy (and I am not the comfortable-in-the-face-of-danger type) I opted to stick with what I’m good at…
