Here’s To The Important Men In Our Lives

By June 20, 2023 No Comments

One of BOCA’s core values is family and this past weekend we celebrated the special men in our lives. Some of us BBQ’d, some of us went to the pool, and others spent time just being together at home. No matter what we did, we appreciated the chance to give these important people a little extra TLC. Life is short and we cherish the memories we continue to make and remember our favorites from the past.

Here are some of our favorite memories:

“When I was in high school, Florida State was slated to play in the National Championship at the Rose Bowl, which was a six-hour drive from us. I jokingly told my dad we should go, not expecting him to say yes, but to my surprise, he loved the idea. We had such a great time and seeing FSU win a national championship in person with my dad will always be one of the most memorable days of my life! He was also a rock star after the game because he drove us home that same night, while I slept so I wouldn’t miss my volleyball tournament the next morning.”

“One of my favorite things to do with my dad is go to concerts together. I am a music lover because of him — he is a musician and has taken me to see live music all of my life. Some of my favorite concert memories with him have been attending Lollapalooza throughout the past few years. I love walking around Grant Park with him, checking out new music and just enjoying the experience together. He has shared his appreciation of live music with me and it is a huge piece of who I am as a person.”

“I have been bonding a lot with my dad as we started fishing together through the pandemic. It has given us a fun activity to go out in the water with our kayaks and enjoy nature. It gives us a great opportunity to joke with each other about our ‘knowledge’ of how best to fish, or rather lack of it.”

“To fully understand my favorite dad memory, you’d need to know what my dad looks like. Dad is a big, burly bear of a human. He has a huge beard, long and wild hair, and when you’re a little girl, he also appears to be the tallest and stockiest man in the world. He’s always wearing a big leather jacket and heavy, steel-toed boots, since his favorite pastime is riding his big and loud motorcycle. Although he might appear intimidating to some, he is also one of the gentlest people I know. Having three daughters, he’s no stranger to being a “girl dad.” And as such, my favorite memories with Dad are of him sitting crisscrossed on the floor with me playing my favorite board game, Pretty Pretty Princess. If you’re not familiar, the object of the game is to collect all the accessories to become a princess. By the end of the game, that same big and burly bear of a Dad would be shining with rings, necklaces, clip-on earrings, and of course, a tiara on top of his head.”
