BOCAteer Spotlight: Roberto Burgos

By July 7, 2022 No Comments

My name is Roberto but my friends call me “J. R.” (Like the former basketball player – not junior) or “Bobby.” But my family calls me by my middle name, Jair.

What do you do at BOCA?
I’m an assistant account executive at BOCA. I’m mostly in charge of keeping our awards and speaking programs up to date, reporting coverage and metrics to our clients and just recently started diving into more media efforts.

What is life all about for you?
To me, life is all about experiences and learning from them. I firmly believe that you need to make the most out of your opportunities in order to have the best experience in whatever it is you’re focusing on at the moment, whether it be relationships, work, self improvement, etc.

What drew you to PR?
Where do I start? I like the broad range of industries you can go into but I actually never thought about a career in tech PR until after I graduated college. I enjoy tech PR because you get to dip your toe in the tech industry and begin to understand how all these different innovative efforts are being conceived, executed and ultimately how the public’s reception of these efforts affect innovation moving forward. I’ve also always loved the art of storytelling and to get to play around with that as a career is pretty awesome.

What do you do for fun when you’re not killing it at BOCA?
When I’m away from work, you can usually find me hiking up some mountain in San Diego, taking my dog to the beach or just cruising up and down SoCal visiting the many beautiful spots California has to offer. I live right by Cowles Mountain (highest point in San Diego) and will usually go there if I’m seeking a challenge. I’ve always loved hiking, especially if there’s a chance of going for a swim afterward – hikes by the beach for the win!

If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go?
I’d love to visit Peru. Machu Picchu is obviously one of the many reasons to visit but Lima, Cusco and Arequipa are some of the cities I’d also like to visit. I can already picture myself enjoying some Peruvian pisco while chilling next to some llamas by Lake Titicaca. This was a great question! I might go book a flight now.

What are you binge watching right now?
I finished watching “Invincible” on Amazon Prime not too long ago. I recently became a big Image Comics fan, so being able to read the comic series and then watch the show and actually love some of the creative differences between the two was really exciting for me. I definitely recommend watching it. Amazon Prime spent a pretty penny on that animation.

What is your number one motivator?
My parents – they’ve done and sacrificed so much for me and my siblings. Making them proud  and being able to share my successes with my family is what keeps me motivated.
