National Women’s Small Business Month

By October 21, 2022 No Comments

October is National Women’s Small Business Month, and BOCA is very proud to be a part of this category. Women are changing the face of business in America — they own 42% of all companies in the U.S and employ nearly 9.4 million people. What’s better, is that 50% of all women-owned businesses are minority-owned.

There is momentum behind this growth as more and more women continue to be motivated to build careers that they are passionate about. Taking the reins and having control is not only empowering, but it also allows women to forgo the gender inequality issues that are often faced in workplace settings.

All over the country, communities are celebrating National Women’s Small Business Month with declarations, networking events, and increased attention on local women-owned businesses.  BMO Financial Group is pledging $80,000 in grants to support the high-level growth plans of eight women-owned businesses across the United States with its BMO Celebrating Women Grant Program. The U.S. Small Business Association also offers business training, counseling, federal contracts, and access to credit and capital for female entrepreneurs through the Office of Women’s Business Ownership. NBC Universal recently launched a new advertising program to support diverse-owned small businesses. The platform is called Open Door and it offers marketing insights and strategy from social media, website design, and business planning. This month Open Door is spotlighting Louisiana retailer Fleurty Girl, and offering creative execution by its in-house team.

BOCA supports all women and their dreams. Kathleen Shanahan, BOCA’s founder, has always had an entrepreneurial spirit. Having spent many years honing her skills in the industry, Kathleen launched BOCA in 2008, with the dream of running a company that was focused on client service and home to happy employees. Fast forward to 2022 and BOCA is thriving as one of the top PR agencies in San Francisco. Kathleen is living, breathing proof that if you want it bad enough and are willing to work hard, you can make it happen. Get out there and do it!!
