BOCAteer Spotlight: Janet Sauter

By October 5, 2022 No Comments

My name is Janet but my friends call me Jan.

What do you do at BOCA?:
I am an account executive, and my primary focus is on media relations and insuring our clients’ awards and speaking programs are running smoothly. I also handle other daily account management tasks and support the senior staff when needed. I have loved every minute of being at BOCA and I have my wonderful coworkers to thank for that!

What is life all about for you?:
Life is all about experiencing new things, meeting new people and learning as much as possible. It’s about making the most out of every moment and enjoying the journey along the way. Life is short and it seems each year goes by faster than the last. There will always be ups and downs, but life is a constant learning process. I believe it’s important to figure out what makes you truly happy and do those things as much as possible.

What drew you to PR?:
Coming out of high school, I had no idea what I wanted to do with my life. My parents always stressed the importance of finding a career that you actually enjoyed. While attending junior college where I played volleyball, I knew I wasn’t good enough to play professionally so I  figured if I couldn’t play, I could work in the industry. Luckily for me, Arizona State has one of the top journalism schools in the country so I transferred and began studying sports journalism. ASU stresses the importance of experience so I took the first internship I could find, which was in the Sun Devil Athletics Media Relations department. Though I had no idea what media relations was at the time, I took it. I continued working there while I spent time as a beat reporter covering local high school athletics. I really got to compare the two sides of journalism but still wasn’t sure which I liked more. It wasn’t until after I spent a semester in Boston working in the Celtics’ communication department that I realized I was sold on PR. While I always thought I would work in sports, I soon realized that agency life was for me. I love having numerous clients, all with different stories that we get to help share.

What do you do for fun when you’re not killing it at BOCA?:
When I’m not working, I spend my time either relaxing at home with my boyfriend, Alex, and dog, Milo, playing sports, or getting some wins on Fortnite with the BOCA crew. I play tennis three mornings a week for my women’s team, play in a mixed doubles league with Alex and another women’s doubles league. I also play in a women’s volleyball league with my best friends and we have practice once a week for our national team. Since I’m getting older, I’ve been trying to put an emphasis on recovery and taking care of my body so I try to do pilates every Sunday, though some weeks, I’m too lazy.

If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go?:
If I could travel anywhere, my first stop would probably be Switzerland. It is so beautiful there and has always been on my bucket list.
