Happy Holidays from the BOCA Team

By December 23, 2022 No Comments

It’s hard to believe we are closing out 2022. We here at BOCA are so fortunate to have had another year of great teamwork, huge client wins and overall growth. Before we go quiet for a few days to spend time celebrating the holidays with our families and friends, our team shared some of their favorite holiday memories and traditions that they are looking forward to throughout the next few days…

My favorite thing about the holidays is the anticipation and excitement leading up to Christmas and all of the fun traditions sprinkled along the way. It has always been my favorite holiday and I try hard each year to make it special for my children. As a kid I always wanted to cut down a Christmas tree, so that is something we do every year now with my own family. We drive out to a tree farm, take a tractor ride out to the fields and pick our very own tree. We take it home and spend the night decorating and drinking hot chocolate. Happy holidays to all!

The holidays with my family have always been a bit of a mixed bag, so not a ton of longstanding traditions have been created. This year, however, I’m very excited because we’re in my wife Gaby’s hometown of Quito, Ecuador, and are starting celebrations with her family. The nine days before Christmas are called novena de navidad, a tradition where each night a member of the family hosts the rest for an evening of some prayer, but mainly food and laughs. The immediate family—in this case, Gaby’s mom, sister, brother and their families—will get together the night of Christmas Eve for a big meal and gifts. Christmas Day is more laid back with quick visits with the aunts, uncles and cousins that you didn’t see the night before. Then, on New Year’s Eve, there is a big family celebration where they burn paper mache dolls as a way to say goodbye to the bad things from the past year, followed by a night of dancing and drinking. This is the first time Gaby has been home for the holidays since 2004, so we’re really looking forward to it!

Although we don’t have any current holiday traditions, this is the first year that we will be celebrating Christmas with our daughter so I look forward to creating many memories and potentially ongoing traditions with her and our family.
