Devicescape: A Case Study

The Company
Silicon Valley-based Devicescape Software (www.devicescape.com) has been delivering innovative, wireless software technology to device manufacturers since 2001. Brand customers such as Cisco, Fujitsu, HTC, Intel, Nintendo, Nokia, Palm and Slacker leverage Devicescape's technology in everything from dual-mode smartphones and PCs to gaming consoles and wireless televisions. Backed by Kleiner Perkins Caulfield & Byers, the company's technology revolutionizes consumers' ability to access Wi-Fi anywhere, anytime from any device.

The Issue
Although Devicescape worked with pre-eminent brands, it was nonetheless viewed as a software component "nice-to–have," rather than a provider of wireless solutions "must-have." Devicescape turned to BOCA to help evangelize its brand, create a deeper association with its customers and partners, and leverage thought leadership to drive bigger-picture issues.

The Insights
As Devicescape's outsourced marketing team, BOCA has deep insight into the company and its customers. BOCA works directly with the CEO to deliver an on-message, outbound marketing plan, attends all executive meetings and executes flawlessly on the agreed-upon strategy.

From joint customer campaigns such as Slacker, the world's first Personal Radio company, to recent iPhone and AT&T announcements, BOCA delivers results based on a strategy: how best to leverage customer and partner brands to illustrate Devicescape momentum and success.

The Ideas
BOCA leveraged two Slacker launches to create viral marketing for Devicescape and generate significant media buzz. To do this, BOCA partnered with Slacker executives and its marketing team. Upon both launches, BOCA secured Devicescape references in top-tier publications such as Wired and critical wireless online outlets such as Gizmodo and Gadling.

Devicescape also made a big splash with its Easy Wi-Fi and Easy Wi-Fi for AT&T product launch. Thanks to BOCA's strong relationships with the wireless guru community and business reporters at the Financial Times, BOCA secured tremendous results.

Devicescape's easier wi-fi aids operators

Most recently, BOCA implemented a survey to find out what Devicescape customers want and need. In an effort to drive thought leadership with empirical data and great research, the results were published in the "Devicescape Wi-Fi Report." BOCA announced the results at a media luncheon in the United Kingdom hosted by Devicescape and partners The Cloud and Trustive. BOCA invited "like minded" companies to attend as well, creating a forum to discuss current trends in the Wi-Fi space. Stateside, the results gained significant attention from such highly credible online outlets as Giga Om, MuniWireless and Converge! Network Digest.
